New Release: Animals on Country

September 27, 2025

New Book Alert!

Imagine a future where children inherit wisdom, not an environmental mess.

We're thrilled to announce the release of Animals on Country, the latest children's book from our co-founder and Tagalaka man, Victor Steffensen, beautifully illustrated by Sandra Steffensen.

Join Uncle Kuu as he takes children out on Country to learn about caring for animals, and in turn, caring for Country. In the book, jarjums (children) can learn how we can all work together to look after the land and its animals, making it a must read for the youngest nature lovers.

Animals on Country belongs right on the shelf alongside Victor and Sandy Steffensens' other books for children, Looking After Country with Fire and The Trees.

“We are leaving our future children with an accumulating debt of environmental mess. If we are serious about transforming to reach those goals, then we must start handing down good knowledge and practice to the future children.”

Victor Steffensen
Author and co-founder of Living Knowledge Network

“With accessible text in a large font and exquisite pictures and even including the lyrics and music to a song, this brother and sister duo have created something special that is not only going to deepen the readers’ knowledge of that special connection between First Nations peoples and their Country, but also encourage them to respect the natural world in a similar way regardless of their heritage, perhaps even beginning to consider the interdependence of the creatures and their surrounds as well as how human life is dependent of a healthy, sustained, thriving natural environment. What might they do to promote these links even within the school playground or their own backyard?”
